Putting the Social Networks to Work for You

Now that you have created your social network, be it Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, Ning, CollectiveX, or any of the others; it is time to put it to work for you.

First, you need to create content on your social network that will attract “friends” or “followers”. Content like quotes, helpful tips, and even new quips are often items that commonly are used along with original material that you produce. Try to choose material that is related to your website’s theme, website’s keywords, or the something interesting about you that you are knowledgeable about. Your personal hobbies or groups you belong to are examples of personal topics you can discuss on your social network to attract more friends and followers. Try to avoid politics and religion as these topics then to alienate potential friends; unless these are the topics of your website.

Second, occasionally, and i really mean occasionally, add an item that discusses your website with a link to a particular page on your website. This adds attention to your website to your new friends and followers, plus it may get picked up by the various search engines. Even on Twitter.

Third, on a rare occasion, add an event to the social network that announces some type of announcement or conference call or new marketing strategy or press release that is related to your website. Having a press event, at least once every 3 months is huge for SEO. So once you have a press event ready, related to your website, announce it every where, including your social network(s).

Fourth, and by all means, you do not have to just have only one social network. While managing more than one social network website can get time consuming, more is better when it comes to social networking. Try at least to use at least one of every type of social network website, or at least Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace.
